Blackcurrant

The least exotic of its berry counterparts, this temperate fruit crop is native to central and northern Europe and can probably account for why these intense berry aromas are prevalent in numerous Bordeaux red wines. Blackcurrants have a sweet, earthy taste. Cabernet Sauvignons are often defined by their intense, blackcurrant flavours, along with other, well-rounded red wines. Blackcurrant, or blackcurrant leaf, is sometimes found in quality, aromatic Sauvignon Blancs from France and New Zealand.
