A variety particular to South Africa, created by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault. The result is a chameleon-like grape that produces wines that vary from light and fruity through to rich and smoky. At its worse it can develop a burnt character, but if treated carefully can be of interest. Often used to add complexity to red blends.
